Thanks for choosing Billet Badges Inc.
Below are our basic tips for the installation and upkeep of your badges.
STOCK BADGE REMOVAL
When replacing stock badges, it may be helpful to place masking tape around the badge to use as a guide to ensure proper alignment of your new Billet Badges. This will also help protect your paint during the badge removal process.
Using a hair-dryer, warm the stock badge to soften the factory adhesive.
*WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING A HEAT GUN AS IT MAY DAMAGE THE PAINT ON YOUR VEHICLE!
Take a piece of fishing line (dental floss can be used as well) and double it over. Twist the line into a braid to use as a saw. Tuck the fishing line in between the badge and the vehicle. Slide the line back and forth using it to saw through the factory adhesive. Once most of the adhesive is cut through, you should be able to pull the badge off with relative ease.
* Stock badges typically have alignment pins which will prevent you from cutting entirely through.
You should only need to cut a few inches before you are able to pull the badge off. Continually heating it with a hair-dryer will make the adhesive more pliable and make the badge easier to remove.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Clean the surface of all remaining adhesive. You may need to use a citrus based cleaner similar to Goo-Gone to remove any remaining adhesive residue. Once the adhesive has been completely removed, clean the paint with soap and water, followed by rubbing alcohol before applying your Billet Badges.
INSTALLING BILLET BADGES
Before removing adhesive backing, do a test to ensure the badge will seat properly. Remove the red protective backing to reveal the 3M VHB adhesive (be careful, it’s sticky stuff). Using the masking tape as a guide, apply the badge lightly to the surface to make sure it's straight. If it is not aligned as you’d like, you should be able to remove it at this point. Once it’s on straight, press the badge firmly working from the center towards the outside edge to remove any air bubbles.
When you install your Billet Badges, make sure the outside temperature is at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit for the adhesive to cure properly. The adhesive should cure completely after 24 hours.
MAINTAINING BILLET BADGES
It’s a tough world out there and like the rest of your vehicle, your Billet Badges could use a little care from time to time to keep them looking their best. If the polished aluminum finish becomes dull, we recommend using a billet polish such as Mothers to bring back its original luster. After the finish is restored we recommend applying a topcoat of wax to preserve the shine. For painted or powder-coated surfaces, having a protective coat of wax will go a long way towards preserving the original finish.
